"Working as a firefighter/paramedic has it's upsides, but also down sides. Years of bottled-up trauma began to break out to the surface and presented as anger. I thought that was just how I was going to be. I began to self-destruct my life. As a Christian I knew there had to be more, but I was unable to control my outbursts. Then I was led to Hope House. I began to see what the real me could be like, not the old me prior, but a brand new REAL me. As the sessions went on, I was taught how to open the compartments, process the damage, and LET IT GO. I was also shown positive coping skills that I have used to process and let go before things can even start to cause problems. I don't know where I would be without Hope House."
"Before coming to Hope House I was in a dark place that has been a slow progression since an event in 2017 that had turned my world upside and had led to the first time I thought of suicide as answer to my problems. At times it showed up as anger against those that loved me most. Not because they upset me, but because I was upset with myself. I knew deep down inside that this was not the life that God had for me, but I was letting the devil win more days than I care to admit. It took me 5 1/2 years before the second thought of suicide came back. After the thought of suicide to make the hurt I was causing my wife, and children go away because it hurt me more to know I was causing them pain and didn't know how to fix myself, I called Hope House. There were several hard sessions over the next several months. The day I was challenged to find my self-worth became a turning point when I realized I was bigger than my problems and God was there the whole time waiting for me. Learning what true commitment from my wife meant helped me understand the commitment God makes to each one of us when we give him our whole heart. She never stopped loving me even when I made it difficult, and He never stops either. I say now I am a recovering perfectionist, I think this was one of the main things that kept me from having a true relationship with God, because how could he love me when I am the way I am. He never asked me to be perfect, just show up every day and give it to him. Hope House helped me understand that. They will always hold a special place in my heart for helping give me a second chance at marriage and life that honors God."
